PROJECTS THAT CHANGE MINDS

  • Milly Francis project. Based on the true story of a 19th-century Muskogee-Creek woman who confronts General Andrew Jackson in Spanish Florida. Jennifer’s role: screenwriter and playwright.
  • Grant applications for non-profits. Effective and successful funding requests for projects that support the Sickle Cell Disease community and programs that help returning citizens rebuild their lives after prison. Jennifer’s role: grant writer
  • When the Dust Rises Anthology of poetry, prose, and rap by high school and middle school migrant youth. Jennifer’s role: writing instructor and book editor. A joint effort by the Migrant Leaders Club and Underground Writing. (2019)
  • The Hidden Truth: Breaking the Wall Stage production of students’ monologues and poems about their experiences as immigrants. Jennifer’s role: playwriting instructor and director. (2019)
  • What No One Ever Tells You Anthology of work by writers in the county jail, juvenile detention, recovery community, and other marginalized groups in Skagit County, Washington. Jennifer’s role: writing instructor and book editor. An Underground Writing project. (2018)
  • Petitions for federal clemency Compelling and persuasive applications for pardons and commutations submitted to the President on behalf of clients. Jennifer’s role: interviewer and writer. With Samuel T. Morison, attorney. (2017–present)
  • RACE: Are We So Different?  Exhibit at Pacific Science Center exploring the science of race and racial bias. Jennifer’s role: develop content about the legacy and persistence of racial bias in the criminal justice system and in the Pacific Northwest. (2013)

CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS 

  • Sadza for the Soul Compiled and edited memoir of Kathy McCarty, a nurse who worked in rural Zimbabwe for 40 years.
  • The Hungry Season   Wrote original stage play produced by Taproot Theatre (Seattle, WA, 1994) and Pacific Theatre (Vancouver, BC, 2006).
  • Introduction to Theatre Developed curriculum and taught course at Edmonds Community College; received highest student evaluations (1992–1993).
